After a year of Covid19 students in the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences have not seen each face to face for well over a year. They met for the first time in a long time with many of their lecturers from various courses on a tour of Shaare Zedek Hospital, initiated by the department and led by Ruthi Huberman, lecturer of the quality assurance course.
As part of the tour, students were exposed to day-to-day work in seven different labs. The working methods, types of instruments and laboratory tests were presented by the various laboratory directors and senior laboratory workers, some of whom are graduates of the Hadassah Academic College. All the lab workers enthusiastically explained about their love of the job and the profession and about their lab schedule.
The tour was opened by Nurit Algor - Director of the Laboratories Division of Sha'ar Tzedek Hospital, explaining the necessary role of the laboratories in the patient care chain and the various interactions that laboratory workers have with the hospital's medical staff.
The tour illustrated to the students the connection between their academic studies taught in the various degree courses and the practice of field work, while identifying various topics discussed in the quality assurance course.
