HAC’s Social Work curriculum was established with the goal to create a qualitative academic-learning environment that includes consideration of the various communities and social-communal fabric of Jerusalem.

The goals of social work studies are to impart theoretical, basic knowledge, and professional experience to prepare students for working with diverse populations. The undergraduate program is based on a humanistic, society-focused, and social justice worldview responsive to the needs and unique characteristics of the geographic and social scope of Jerusalem and its environment.

The curriculum aspires to develop professional identity, critical thinking, self-awareness and multicultural sensitivity amongst students, as well as imparting therapeutic tools through which the curriculum graduates can provide suitable professional responses to the diverse needs of the population groups that require their services.
A special emphasis is placed on professional and ethical values.

The curriculum will place special emphasis on Jerusalem’s multicultural society from the aspects of culture, nationality, religion, and social and communal structure. The curriculum will place an emphasis on the communities and groups in Israeli society and the multicultural aspect involved in therapy. Courses include the aesthetics of exclusion, a unique course on the Ultra-Orthodox society, and a unique course on the Arab society.
The Introduction to Sociology course and the course that delves into the issues in sociological issues in the Israeli society will place an emphasis on the uniqueness of the various groups with which the students and future social workers will come into contact during their work. This subject will become a key-note in all the curriculum courses, especially in the method courses.

The Curriculum

The academic curriculum will be offered over three academic years and six semesters.
The curriculum is based on the global approach in social work, which highlights the range of primary methods (individual, group, and communal work). Within the academic framework, students will acquire basic knowledge in the social and behavioral sciences and will be acquainted with the system of social services. At the center of the training, there are principles, values and therapeutic methods alongside acquaintance with the knowledge and skills for research and evaluation.
During each academic year, two study days will be dedicated to different lessons (the onus of listening) and one/two days will involve field studies in the various frameworks (year 1 - one day a week, years 2 and 3 – two days a week).
